Light reflections with a pencil in a glass of water. As discussed in class presented by my instructor, the pencil looks like it is broken or is cut in half by looking at the glass. It's the reflection of the from the glass and light that give the illusion of the broken pencil. I find this to be a good observation as well as a good magic trick to share with people and can be a great class discussion where in lighting concepts lectures is a great start.
